Kernel – 5.8-rc3 – VMware Runtime Still Reboots..

Updated to Kernel 5.8-rc3, and the reboot problem with VMware 15.5.6 still persists.   Tested with Fedora ‘Rawhide’ kernel 5.8.0-0.rc2.20200625git8be3a53e18e0.1.fc33.x86_64, with same failure.    Details posted to VMware VMTN some days ago, but no response so far.. NVIDIA – New Drivers – OK with Kernel 5.7. Existing Patch Works for 5.8.

NVIDIA have released new drivers 440.100 and (beta) 450.51, and details are here:  https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/160175/en-us and https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/160555/en-us Both compile OK with Kernel  5.7 (tested with 5.7.5) and the existing Kernel 5.8 patch for 440.82 still works with both versions – with some offsets.  (compile tested with Kernel 5.8-rc2). There is now an interim patch available, for NVIDIA 440.82 and Kernel 5.8, at https://gitlab.com/snippets/1986228 This should be applied as well as the 5.7 patch, and I have tested this with pre-release Kernel 5.8-git version from June 12th, and it works OK.    Note that this is an interim patch, and may be updated once 5.8-rc1 is released.. … Continue reading →

VMware have just released Workstation Pro 15.5.5, and release notes are here:   https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workstation-Pro/15.5/rn/VMware-Workstation-1555-Pro-Release-Notes.html  This release introduces enhancements for Windows 10 hosts, but also some unspecified ‘fixes’ for Linux..
