After more discussions and testing, it has been reported that the ‘official’ VMware 17.5.0 fix for kernels 6.5 and later may cause some problems.. VMware have just released Workstation 17.5.0, and release notes are here: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workstation-Pro/17.5/rn/vmware-workstation-175-pro-release-notes/index.html No mention is made of newer host kernel compatibility, but this version does address some linux-related issues..
