Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on January 26, 2020 by RGJanuary 26, 2020

Kernel 5.5 is out, and brief details of changes since -rc7 are here:  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/2001.3/02724.html This now works OK with Intel e1000e-supported Ethernet cards, and the patched version of VMware 15.5.1.   There is an interim patch for NVIDIA driver 440.44, and this gives a tombstone on # startx, on my systems, but seems to work OK, after that. … Continue reading →

So – after (literally) years, there is a new 4.0 version of Skype for Linux available (the download button still says 2.2, but the 4.0 version is downloaded) Still no 64-bit version, sadly..     The cynic in me would wonder if this sudden change of heart might have something to do with support for the new ‘inline targeted … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on May 21, 2012 by RGMay 21, 2012

Kernel 3.4.0 just released…   Not on kernel.org yet, so downloaded from github (https://github.com/torvalds/linux). The latest version of the NVIDIA linux drivers (295.53) already supports kernel 3.4x, and the latest ‘weltall‘ patch for VMware (8.0.3) also supports this kernel version, so should be good to go.. Now – to see what’s new/improved/fixed/broken! Update:   compiled/installed, and everything seems to … Continue reading →
