ARM – DreamPlug Power Fault – and ‘Fix’..
I finally got my old DreamPlug working again, but found that the power would fail intermittently.. After checking for software faults, I tracked the problem down to the power supply cable ‘clip-on’ connector..
The problem was caused by the internal connection between the two external pins and the internal slide-on metal tabs being loose, and causing frequent disconnects..
My solution was to completely cut away the pins and metal tabs in the clip-on connector, leaving just the plastic shell, and solder the two wires of the power cable directly on to the spring-loaded metal tabs on the slide-on power supply itself, and then glue the shell of the clip-on connector back over the soldered joints using plastic epoxy glue, to seal it and hold the power cable securely – and safely…
Usual disclaimer applies – mains voltage is dangerous, and don’t attempt this unless you know what you are doing!
The result is that the DreamPlug is now completely stable, and ready for further ‘hacks’ (of the non-lethal kind..)
