Just installed the latest NVIDIA driver – 337.12 – and it does compile, and run, OK with Kernel 3.14, without the need for any patches..

yes, but the new 337.12 driver is not compatible to X.Org X Server 1.15.99.902 (1.16.0 RC 2). 🙁
