SWAP on SD?
I have been having continuing problems with yum ‘hanging’ on my Dreamplug – through several different versions of Fedora, and numerous kernel updates (currently FC17 and Kernel 3.3..)
The Fedora rootfs image did not include any swap, so – after some digging around – I decided to add a ./SWAP file, and activate it… The results (so far) seem to be positive, and yum appears to run faster, and doesn’t ‘hang’…
The whole ‘Swap on SD Cards’ saga seems to be somewhat controversial – with some claims that it will ‘wear out the card’… The whole idea of using an off-the-shelf SD Card as a ‘disk drive’ is a compromise, in any case, and it has been mentioned that a good-quality card will last for a good time, compared to other components in the system..
So — my ./SWAP (800MB) will stay, for the time being…
