And Now.. Dreamplug to F18..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 11, 2012 by RGDecember 11, 2012

After the success of the Raspberry Pi, I have now updated the Dreamplug to Fedora 18, using yum…. This time, the rpm –import…  worked fine, and the whole process went very smoothly.. Fedora release 18 (Spherical Cow) Kernel 3.7.0-rc5 on an armv5tel (ttyS0) Robert Gadsdon.  December 11th, 2012. … Continue reading →

Pi – Update to Fedora 18..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 10, 2012 by RGDecember 10, 2012

As the Fedora 18 Beta had been stable on my x86_64 test system, I decided to update the Pi from F17 to F18..   As there is no ‘update’ image available, the only way is to use YUM..    Instructions are on the Fedora site: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Upgrading_Fedora_using_yum#Fedora_17_-.3E_Fedora_18 I found that the rpm –import command failed with a curl error: # … Continue reading →

Turbo-Pi? – Not so Fast, Now…

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on September 20, 2012 by RGSeptember 20, 2012

Well, the ‘Turbo’ Pi overclocking might be great for playing games (Quake 3, anyone?) but regular apps don’t like it. After applying the Turbo 1GHz overclock, I immediately had problems with yum / rpm segfaulting when run, so reverted to the standard 700MHz again, and all is well..     Maybe a little less overclock, might be more stable? … Continue reading →

The (Minor) Curse of Bacula…

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on June 28, 2012 by RGJune 28, 2012

Bacula is great for Linux – to – LTO tape backups, but the YUM updates can – at least on my system – sometimes leave it in an unusable state.. For some reason, the update tends to leave the libraries in /usr/lib64 in a mess, with some pointing to postgresql instead of mysql, and some still in … Continue reading →

Fedora Upgrade – 16 to 17..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on May 18, 2012 by RGMay 18, 2012

After all the Pi excitement, back to (relative) normality.. I upgraded my main (x86_64) systems to Fedora 17, using YUM, as usual..    I have found that using the DVD is messy, and sometimes leaves the system in a ‘hybrid’ state, and then the DVD versions of many packages need to be updated, in any case! Compared to … Continue reading →

Fedora 17 on the Pi!

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on April 22, 2012 by RGApril 22, 2012

After applying the SD Card disk formatting and ‘optimisation’ mentioned previously, I decided to attempt to bring the version of Fedora (14) up to date.. The Fedora 17 Pi ‘respin’ is due sometime in May, but I decided – based on my experiences with Fedora 17 on the Dreamplug – to try to ‘hack’ F17 from the … Continue reading →

Another Essential Kernel Config..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on April 15, 2012 by RGApril 15, 2012

Another kernel configuration option that used to be just that – optional – but is now essential for ‘newer’ Fedora systems.. If you see Error unpacking rpm package glibc-common-n.n-nn.xxxx error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/libexec/pt_chown: cpio: cap_set_file On some yum/rpm updates (with httpd, as well) this can cause the actual update to fail, but yum/rpm … Continue reading →

SWAP on SD?

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on March 23, 2012 by RGMarch 23, 2012

I have been having continuing problems with yum ‘hanging’ on my Dreamplug – through several different versions of Fedora, and numerous kernel updates (currently FC17 and Kernel 3.3..) The Fedora rootfs image did not include any swap, so – after some digging around – I decided to add a ./SWAP file, and activate it…     The results (so … Continue reading →
