Kernel 3.8.1 – and 3.7.10 is EOL..
Recently updated my main system to 3.8.1, without any fuss.. As before, the (patched) VMware 9.01 works fine, and the latest NVIDIA ‘stable’ driver 310.32 compiles OK, too.. Don’t forget to include the obligatory softlink, before compiling VMware!
ln -s /usr/src/linux-3.8.1/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h /usr/src/linux-3.8.1/include/linux/version.h
There is a later version of the 3.7 branch available – 3.7.10, but this is now considered EOL (End Of Life). Updating to 3.8.1 is recommended, if possible – and especially if you were running 3.8.0… I understand that the 3.8 branch will eventually be EOL’ed, too, and is not seen as a candidate for long-term support..
More details on all the changes from 3.8.0:

$ uname -a
Linux rglinux 3.8.1 #1 SMP Thu Feb 28 19:40:48 GMT 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The other exciting news is that (finally!) the kernel.org site has been redesigned, and looks much better:
Robert Gadsdon. March 1st, 2013.
