VMware – 17.6.4 is out. Still Needs Patching.. Features Removed..
VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.4 has been released, and details are here: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/desktop-hypervisors/workstation-pro/17-0/release-notes/vmware-workstation-1764-pro-release-notes.html As mentioned in the Release Notes, there are some features removed in this version..
Disappointingly, this version still fails with Kernel 6.15 as well as 6.16, and the 17.6.3 patches and fixes for these kernel versions still need to be applied..

It’s a “free” product now and treated as such, even for customers who previously purchased the product for many years.
So now the damn thing stops working without kernel patches you have to track down on some other planet.
And they’ll keep removing features, like the previous ability to run it as a service, until there are no features left.
So what’s the actual patch to use for running this on Fedora?
The mkubecek github branches stop at workstation-17.5.1
See: https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules/issues – where the various ‘newer’ patches etc are discussed/referenced..

For Linux Mint the best solution for me is to have 2 partitions on my SSD: one with Mint 21.3 and kernel 5.15 where I run vmware (and also osx-kvm with Qemu and virt manager) with cpupower-gui to keep a low cpu temperature: it runs at best, very well.
Another partition with the latest Mint version and latest kernel, but without vmware nor Qemu as they run quite slowly with the patch.
