Kernel – 5.8 Released – NVIDIA OK, but VMware Runtime Causes Reboot, With No Warning..
Kernel 5.8 is out, and details are here: http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/2008.0/00586.html
The (patched) VMware 15.5.6 vmmon/vmnet modules compile OK, and the latest NVIDIA driver 450.57 compiles and runs OK.
However…. I cannot upgrade my main systems, as the catastrophic VMware runtime reboot still occurs, as mentioned in previous articles:

VMware Workstation 15.5.6 build-16341506

Any known solution? or do we have to wait until version 16.0?
There is currently no solution, and remaining on Kernel 5.7.x is the only option.
From the info I have seen so far.. There should be a fix in the next major release – Workstation Pro 16, which is due to be released in about a months time (but may well slip, if past experience is anything to go by..)
RG.
Bad news 🙁
Thank you RG for your info

VirtualBox 6.1.14_140239 update fixes build failure on kernel 5.8.x. Maybe one could find some ideas to create patch for VMware workstation 15.5.6.16341506?
