Pi Update..
Found the latest kernel image (still 3.1.9-based..) and associated pre-compiled modules at the git repository – https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware – and the ‘new’ version of kernel.img does away with the annoying console debug messages..
Device still seems very slow, but maybe I’m too used to quad-core systems with masses of memory!
I even tried the Debian system, as this is the recommended one, and Fedora is still described as ‘a little buggy’.. Apart from the fact that I find Debian immensely frustrating, the performance was not really any better, and I got annoyed at having to use primitive utilities (dpkg etc..)…
I did notice that the Debian disk image included a swap partition, so I have added swap to the Fedora system… I am aware that swap files on SD Cards is somewhat controversial..
The disk layout in fstab seems a bit unusual, but it seems to work… The network interface starts out as USB0 and then becomes ETH0… I have installed webmin and de-installed NetworkManager, to make remote configuration more straightforward..
