I have tested this with the latest kernel – 6.5-rc3 – and it now compiles and loads/runs OK.

I was unable to test it with VMware, as there is still no solution for the compile fail with 6.5-rc:

I tested the VMware fail on two different systems, and with the ‘official’ Fedora 39/Rawhide version of kernel 6.5-rc2, and the results were the same..
