Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on August 1, 2023 by RGAugust 1, 2023

I have been using Webmin for at least the past 20+ years (!) and ran up against the SHA1 error on the Webmin RPMs when upgrading to Fedora 38, which did not permit it to be added/updated any more.. # rpm -q webmin error: Verifying a signature using certificate XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (Jamie Cameron <jcameron@webmin.com>): Key XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX invalid: not … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on September 3, 2021 by RGSeptember 3, 2021

I had spent far too much time trying to solve the Pi4 USB conundrum ( see https://rglinuxtech.com/?p=2922 ) but did recently find that the 5.14-rc kernels enabled the USB3 hub, although USB2 still failed to function.    I then updated u-boot to the ‘latest’ version, and now everything (finally..) works as it should, again..: Updated u-boot to latest … Continue reading →

Kernel 5.7-rc1 has been released, and brief details are here:  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/2004.1/04252.html There have been some reports of kernel crash on boot, so test with care..   My system (HP Z220) booted without any issues.. 5.6-patched VMware 15.5.2 compiled and ran OK, although the latest NVIDIA – 440.82 – failed to compile, but thanks to Isaak I. New Install – Dual-Boot, Serial Console, Intel Ethernet Issues – Fixed..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on February 18, 2019 by RGFebruary 18, 2019

Setting up an old HP8000 desktop small-form-factor system as a crash-and-burn test system, with dual-boot Fedora 29 and Windows 7, on separate drives. First slight gotcha with the Fedora install: The installation utility shows the two disks, the first of which has Windows 7 (sda) and the second – additional – was for the Fedora Linux install … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on June 19, 2018 by RGJune 19, 2018

Thanks to Michal Kubeček, the source of the VMware problem with Kernel 4.18-rc1 has been found, and a Kernel patch produced:  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1806.2/02730.html I have applied this, and can confirm that VMware (14.1.2 patched) now operates correctly.. The kernel patch now has to run the gauntlet of the LKML ‘review process’, and so may be changed over time, … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 12, 2013 by RGDecember 13, 2013

Just updated to Kernel 3.12.5, and quickly reverted to 3.12.4.. With 3.12.5, Avahi mDNS failed, and – more importantly – MariaDB would not start: mariadb.service – MariaDB database server    Loaded: … Continue reading →
