Kernel – 5.7 Is Out. OK with Patched VMware and NVIDIA..

Kernel 5.7 has been released, and brief details of changes since -rc7 are here:  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/2005.3/09342.html The patched versions of VMware 15.5.5 and NVIDIA 440.82 both compile OK, as expected, and the patched pre-Beta VMware 16 20H2 is also OK. VMware – 15.5.5 Released – Compiles with 5.6, not 5.7. – Patch Now Available

VMware have just released Workstation Pro 15.5.5, and release notes are here:   https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Workstation-Pro/15.5/rn/VMware-Workstation-1555-Pro-Release-Notes.html  This release introduces enhancements for Windows 10 hosts, but also some unspecified ‘fixes’ for Linux.. Update:   Patch now available, at https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules/tree/workstation-15.5.5 Tested with 5.6.15 and 5.7-rc7, and compiles OK.. VMware – Workstation 16 ‘Tech Preview’ Available, and Patch..

VMware now have their ‘Tech Preview’ 20H2 available, which will later – presumably – become Workstation 16:  https://blogs.vmware.com/workstation/2020/05/directx-11-now-with-workstation-tp20h2.html If you want to test this, you will need to uninstall any previous version of VMware (or the installer segfaults..) and – thanks to Michal Kubeček – there is already a vmmon/vmnet patch available, at https://github.com/mkubecek/vmware-host-modules/tree/tmp/workstation-16 I have tested … Continue reading →
