Fedora – Recent F40 update breaks QT Applications.. and a Nasty Workaround..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on April 3, 2024 by RGApril 4, 2024

I have recently been involved in bug reports etc for a new problem in Fedora 40, where a recent update has effectively broken all QT applications, resulting in KDE not functioning, and even # make xconfig is broken. The Fedora bug report is here:  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2272758 The problem is: # kwrite Illegal instruction (core dumped) # kate Illegal … Continue reading →

KDE/Plasma – Softlink to NTFS-3G Partition – Solution..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on March 26, 2019 by RGMarch 26, 2019

This is one of those not-sure-if-bug-or-feature issues..   On my dual-boot Fedora/Win7 system, I needed to access a ‘shared’ NTFS (ntfs-3g) partition.   When I came to add a softlink to the NTFS partition on the Plasma Desktop, the link existed, but nothing showed on the Desktop.    Other softlinks – to EXT4 partitions – displayed OK.   I tested with … Continue reading →

Hardware – Inexpensive Small Linux Laptop..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on May 3, 2017 by RGMay 3, 2017

After some research, I decided to use an Intel-powered ex-Chromebook for my portable Linux project..    I settled on an Acer Chromebook c720p, as this could be ‘converted’ to run Linux natively, rather than in emulation via Crouton..    There are several articles on this, but I found useful info (and a chassis/mobo diagram) here:  https://ankitrasto.wordpress.com/2015/02/06/clean-installing-linux-on-the-acer-c720pc720-chromebook-a-complete-guide/ If you are … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 15, 2016 by RGDecember 15, 2016

NVIDIA driver 375.26 has been released, and details are available here:  http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/112992/en-us I had been experiencing some odd window (KDE5) behaviour with 375.20, and hopefully things might be more stable with this version..     If not, then possibly kwin is to blame.. KDE – Plasma Update May Lose ‘Favorites’, and a Fix..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 9, 2015 by RGDecember 9, 2015

Updated to the latest Plasma Desktop, on one of my systems (Fedora 23, x86_64), and found that the ‘Favorites’ had all vanished, apart for xterm..    My other x86_64 system updated OK, with all the ‘Favorites’ intact.. Rather than hunt down all the apps and ‘add to favorites’ for each one, I found the old Favorites again, as … Continue reading →
