ARM64 – Odroid C2 – Hack to Fix Ethernet Hangs..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on October 22, 2016 by RGOctober 22, 2016

I had been constantly frustrated by the Odroid C2 meson8b-dwmac Ethernet ‘hang’ problem, which has persisted over (at least..) eight different ‘patched kernel’ versions that I have tested..    The network link hung/stopped after a short time at full (1000Mbps) speed, and also – sometimes after a bit longer – at reduced (100Mbps) speed.. The driver does show … Continue reading →

ARM – Rock2 – Kernel 4.6-rc4 – MMC Swaparound – Bug or Feature?

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on April 21, 2016 by RGMay 23, 2016

I had been running Kernel 4.6-rc2 on the Radxa Rock2 without any issues, and decided to update to recently-released Kernel 4.6-rc4.. Brief details of changes from -rc3 are here:  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1604.2/00610.html The boot failed, and I then compiled/installed 4.6-rc3 to see if that would have been OK, and it was.. I then noticed something odd in the failed … Continue reading →

NVIDIA – Beta Driver 361.16 Breaks Plasma/KDE5..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on January 7, 2016 by RGJanuary 7, 2016

Updated the tests system to the latest ‘beta’ driver 361.16, and this broke Plasma/KDE5..    This driver is supposed to introduce the ‘vendor neutral’ libglvnd option: $ ll /usr/lib64/libGLX* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Jan 7 10:17 /usr/lib64/libGLX_indirect.so.0 -> libGLX_nvidia.so.361.16 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Jan 7 10:17 /usr/lib64/libGLX_nvidia.so.0 -> libGLX_nvidia.so.361.16 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1115368 Jan 7 … Continue reading →

ARM – Pi2 – Kernel 4.4-rc5 – U-Boot Fail, and Workaround..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 20, 2015 by RGDecember 20, 2015

Recently attempted to update the Pi2 to Kernel 4.4-rc5, and encountered a problem.. The more recent proprietary Raspberry Pi 2 kernels have switched to using ‘DTB Overlays’ to control various components, but these are – currently – unsupported by U-Boot.. Booting the kernel with U-Boot results in mmc errors, and register dump: ……………….. timeout waiting for hardware … Continue reading →

VMware – 12.1.0 released – Still Broken With Fedora 23..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on December 8, 2015 by RGDecember 8, 2015

Just updated the test system to VMware 12.1.0 – Release notes are here:  https://pubs.vmware.com/Release_Notes/en/workstation/12pro/workstation-121-release-notes.html Frustratingly, this release still has a runtime (# vmware) incompatible with Fedora 23.. The original workaround was documented in an earlier article – http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=1601 – but the Fedora 23 library versions have now changed, so the copy commands are now (as of December … Continue reading →

VMware – Fedora 23 Breaks vmware app, and a Workaround..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on November 4, 2015 by RGNovember 4, 2015

Although VMware 12.0.1 was installed OK, the desktop app (/usr/bin/vmware) fails, with – frustratingly – no error shown..    According to various comments found, this is due to a change to GCC version 5.1.1 in Fedora 23.. Thanks to Vincent Cojot, on the sgros.blogspot.com blog, there is a slightly convoluted workaround, which basically involves replacing the VMware versions … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on November 4, 2015 by RGNovember 5, 2015

ARM – More SELinux Problems..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on May 6, 2015 by RGMay 6, 2015

After updating the Odroid U3 to kernel 4.1-rc2 (see separate post) I encountered more SELinux / Fedora 22 issues.. This time, SELinux tried to enable itself in ‘targeted’ mode on reboot, despite being ‘disabled’ in the config file.. …. [ OK ] Started Tell Plymouth To Write Out Runtime Data. [ OK ] Started Preprocess NFS configuration. … Continue reading →

ARM – The Secret is Out – ‘Pidora 2014’ is Here..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on February 18, 2014 by RGFebruary 18, 2014

Thanks to invaluable information from Mace Moneta, I have now been able to find the location of the (recent) release of Pidora 20 — now, for some reason, known as ‘Pidora 2014‘.. For details and links, see the comments section at the bottom of my previous article: http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=1048 I started the upgrade (from Pidora 19), which took … Continue reading →
