Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on July 4, 2013 by RGJuly 4, 2013

I have all VMware modules running on kernel 3.10 now, and there is a patch for vmblock, which can be found at:http://mysticalzero.blogspot.com/2013/07/vmblock-patch-for-linux-310-vmware.html Thanks to maz-1 for producing this! Robert Gadsdon.  July 4, 2013. … Continue reading →

VMware Quirks.. CLI to the Rescue!

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on June 29, 2013 by RGJune 29, 2013

I had occasion to (re) install VMware Workstation recently, and found that – for some reason – the ‘Enter License Key‘ button did nothing.. So, after the usual search, I was able to do this though a console session: # /usr/lib/vmware/bin/vmware-vmx –new-sn <license key> Robert Gadsdon.   June 28, 2013. … Continue reading →

Kernel 3.10-rc7 – NVIDIA (patched) OK, and VMware OK, with vmblock Disabled..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on June 27, 2013 by RGJune 27, 2013

Updated the test system to kernel 3.10-rc7, and the patched NVIDIA drivers for 310.51 and 319.23 compile OK, as before. VMware 9.02 – with the vmnet patch – compiles OK, except for vmblock..   I still can’t find a patch for vmblock and kernel 3.10-rcN, but VMware can run without vmblock, so just stop it from trying to … Continue reading →

3.10-rc3 – NVIDIA Patches OK, Still Missing VMware vmblock Patch..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on May 30, 2013 by RGMay 30, 2013

Just installed 3.10-rc3 on the test system, and the latest NVIDIA drivers (310.51, and 319.23 beta) both compile OK with the patch mentioned in the posting on 3.10-rc2  http://rglinuxtech.com/?p=738 The – rather complex – 3.10 patch for vmnet works, but there is still no patch for vmblock, which fails to compile: /tmp/modconfig-J79ptB/vmblock-only/linux/inode.c:49:4: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer … Continue reading →

3.9.3 – All OK, with VMware and NVIDIA latest..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on May 21, 2013 by RGMay 21, 2013

My swap file boot failure turned out – as I suspected – to be self-inflicted, as I had somehow managed to ‘unselect’ the ”support for paging of anonymous memory (swap)” option under General setup… Once this was corrected, the 3.9.x kernel compiled – and booted – successfully.. Kernel 3.9.3 compiles the latest VMware (9.02) and NVIDIA (310.51 … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on April 12, 2013 by RGApril 12, 2013

Just installed the ‘final / released’ version of the Raspberry Pi 3.8 kernel, from https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/rpi-3.8.y, and everything seems to be behaving..   This is already based on 3.8.6, so no need (yet) to apply any ‘incrementals’… Fedora release 18 (Spherical Cow) Kernel 3.8.6-pi on an armv6l (ttyAMA0) ……………….. # uname -a Linux rgpi 3.8.6-pi #1 PREEMPT Fri Apr … Continue reading →
