3.7-rc1 – Problems with VMware and NVIDIA.. – and Fixes..?

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on October 15, 2012 by RGOctober 15, 2012

Just compiled and installed 3.7-rc1 on my test system, and ran into problems straight away.. NVIDIA (304.51) compile fails with a whole host of errors, and VMware (9.0-patched) compile fails immediately, with: vthread-3| I120: Failed version test: /usr/src/linux-3.7-rc1/linux/version.h not found. Update: There is a fix for NVIDIA, here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=194465    – a patch, and the removal of VM_RESERVED … Continue reading →

Raspberry Pi – A Little Bit More Up-to-Date..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on August 24, 2012 by RGAugust 24, 2012

The Raspberry Pi repository on GitHub now has kernel 3.2.27 available, so I updated that with the 3.2.27-28 incremental patch, from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/incr/ Now, the Pi is running Fedora 17 with kernel 3.2.28.. Fedora release 17 (Beefy Miracle) Kernel 3.2.28 on an armv6l (ttyAMA0) rgpi login: xxxx Password: Last login: Thu Jan  1 01:01:03 on ttyAMA0 [xxxx@rgpi ~]# … Continue reading →

APC – Fun with Long-term Incrementals..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on August 21, 2012 by RGAugust 21, 2012

In a vain attempt to get the APC’s antique kernel to – at least – work with Fedora 14, I had been applying the series of ‘incremental’ 2.6.32.x patches available – amongst other places – at http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/incr/ The kernel.org ftp site didn’t seem to have the full set.. This brought me as far as 2.6.32.27, which still … Continue reading →

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on August 3, 2012 by RGAugust 3, 2012

Leigh Scott (leigh123linux) has already produced an NVIDIA driver patch for 304.30 to compile – and run – on kernel 3.6-rc1..   Get it at: http://cvs.rpmfusion.org/viewvc/rpms/nvidia-kmod/devel/3.6_kernel.patch?revision=1.2&root=nonfree&view=markup I’ve applied the patch, and all is OK, now…     So – 3.6-rc1 now works, with VMware 8.0.4 (patched) and NVIDIA 304.30 (patched)…   … Continue reading →

BUG Hunting.. Bad rss-counter..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on June 23, 2012 by RGJune 23, 2012

If you are seeing a lot of these: BUG: Bad rss-counter state mm:ffff8801c4be7b80 idx:2 val:1 -repeated ad nauseam, then there is a fix coming! https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/6/9/47 I have applied the patch, and (so far..) it appears to have fixed the ‘problem’.. … Continue reading →
