NVIDIA – Finally… Up to Date..!

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on November 6, 2013 by RGNovember 6, 2013

After considerable delays, NVIDIA have finally released up-to-date drivers that support 3.11 and 3.12 kernels, without the need for patches.. I have tested 319.72 and 331.20, and both compile OK, on kernels 3.11 and 3.12.. Hopefully NVIDIA will be able to maintain their Linux driver/kernel compatibility, after this uncharacteristic lapse.. NVIDIA – Still Waiting….

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on October 16, 2013 by RGOctober 16, 2013

There is still no up-to-date NVIDIA driver for kernel 3.11 or 3.12 support, and the many patch references on the DevZone forum are getting somewhat confusing.. I had previously linked to a thread there which included a link to a suitable patch, but this is a direct link, which is actually on the old NVNews NVIDIA forum, … Continue reading →

NVIDIA – Driver 331.13 Released – Still Fails..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on October 4, 2013 by RGOctober 4, 2013

Sadly – as has already been reported – the latest NVIDIA 331.13 driver still won’t compile with 3.11 kernels.. I did manage to get it to work, by applying the 3.11-only patch originally created for 325.15.. It would appear that a ‘legal’ patch for 3.12 kernels would be a non-trivial task, but the 3.11 patch is so … Continue reading →

Pi to 3.11..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on September 9, 2013 by RGSeptember 9, 2013

Just updated the Raspberry Pi to kernel 3.11, using the source code available (linux-rpi-3.11.y) on GitHub, with a couple of minor hacks.. As seems to often be the case, there were a couple of source/config files missing: drivers/net/ethernet/Kconfig is missing, so.. just copy one from the older 3.10.x tree.. make[2]: *** No rule to make target `net/mac80211/chan.o’, … Continue reading →

VMware 10 – No Patches Needed..

Adventures With Linux ™ Posted on September 7, 2013 by RGSeptember 7, 2013

Just upgraded to VMware Workstation 10, and can confirm that it installs and runs on Kernel 3.11 without the need for any patches.. Now, all we need is for NVIDIA to release a 3.11-compatible version of their driver, and all will be well..   That is – until Kernel 3.12-rc1 is out! Robert Gadsdon.   September 7, 2013 … Continue reading →
