There still seems to be a persistent bug with the latest FC16 and FC17 versions of the bash rpm, which causes ftp logins to fail after you attempt to put in the password.<\/p>\n
The cause is that vital data is erased from the \/etc\/shells file, during the rpm update.<\/p>\n
The file should contain:<\/p>\n
\/sbin\/nologin
\n\/bin\/dash
\n\/bin\/bash
\n\/bin\/sh<\/p>\n
– but after the rpm update, only contains:<\/p>\n
\/sbin\/nologin
\n\/bin\/dash<\/p>\n
The fix is – not surprisingly – to edit \/etc\/shells and add back the required info!<\/p>\n
I have no idea why this seemingly simple bug has still not been fixed…<\/p>\n
