{"id":877,"date":"2013-10-10T10:41:09","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T09:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=877"},"modified":"2013-10-10T10:41:09","modified_gmt":"2013-10-10T09:41:09","slug":"android-hudl-and-an-exercise-in-customer-satisfaction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=877","title":{"rendered":"Android:  Hudl, and an Exercise in Customer Satisfaction?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I ordered a Tesco\u00a0<strong>Hudl<\/strong> online as soon as they were available, and got mine delivered 24 hours later &#8211; which was faster than expected.<br \/>\nIt is an excellent device &#8211; especially at that price point &#8211; but mine turned out to be one with a defective display (grey areas were heavily red-pixellated)..<\/p>\n<p>I returned the device to the local Tesco store for replacement, as per the instructions, but was told that they had none in stock, and the replacement had to be re-ordered, and delivery would probably take at least two weeks!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As the staff seemed to be unable to provide any alternative, I accepted this and then wrote to Tesco&#8217;s &#8216;customer service&#8217;, asking if they could expedite the delivery, as this was a replacement for a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">faulty<\/span> unit, and not a &#8216;new order&#8217;..<\/p>\n<p>Their response was depressingly familiar&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 The apology was not for the delay, but for the (imagined, and somewhat patronising) &#8221;not explained clearly by staff&#8221;, thereby completely missing the point of my request!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Needless to say, there was no offer to actually do anything about the delay.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I am expecting too much &#8211; especially for the UK &#8211; but I have dealt with many consumer &#8216;tech&#8217; companies over the years, and many would have had a small number of units set aside for these return\/replacement situations..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the end, it was a business decision, to prioritize new deliveries over &#8216;existing customer satisfaction&#8217;..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After all, Tesco is primarily a FMCG (<strong>F<\/strong>ast <strong>M<\/strong>oving <strong>C<\/strong>onsumer <strong>G<\/strong>oods) company, and mainly sells groceries!<\/p>\n<p>So..\u00a0 I will just have to be patient&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon.\u00a0\u00a0 October 10, 2013.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I ordered a Tesco\u00a0Hudl online as soon as they were available, and got mine delivered 24 hours later &#8211; which was faster than expected.
