{"id":785,"date":"2013-07-18T13:42:29","date_gmt":"2013-07-18T12:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=785"},"modified":"2013-07-18T16:49:41","modified_gmt":"2013-07-18T15:49:41","slug":"pi-to-3-9-9-fedora-eol-pidora-404","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=785","title":{"rendered":"Pi to 3.9.9 &#8211; Fedora EOL&#8230;  Pidora 404&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated the Raspberry Pi to kernel 3.9.9, and everything seems to work OK..<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pidora 18 (Raspberry Pi Fedora Remix)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Kernel 3.9.9-pi on an armv6l (ttyAMA0)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have been using the &#8216;official&#8217; Fedora ARM repository for updates, but now it seems that Fedora 18 is the last version that will support the <strong>armv5tel<\/strong> version..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fedora 19 and beyond are <strong>armv7hl<\/strong> only, which does not support the Pi CPU..<\/p>\n<p>So..\u00a0 I tried <strong><em>Pidora<\/em><\/strong>, in the hope that this would provide a way forward&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I got the base install running OK, but this is a non-standard <strong>armv6hl<\/strong> version, which is only available from Pidora.\u00a0\u00a0 This would be OK, but their versions of apps are somewhat &#8216;out of date&#8217;, and the Pidora YUM repository has been 404 for days now..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This seems to be a recurring problem, judging by posts on various forums..<\/p>\n<p>So now&#8230;\u00a0 I will be going back to my original F18 armv5tel version, which will &#8211; at least &#8211; still get updates, until the release of Fedora 20, when it will be officially EOL (<strong>E<\/strong>nd <strong>O<\/strong>f <strong>L<\/strong>ife).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Update:<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 The Pidora repositories appeared online again, but <strong>yum<\/strong> just hung &#8211; repeatedly &#8211; after <em><strong>&#8211;&gt; Finished Dependency Resolution,<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>despite running <strong># yum clean all<\/strong>, and (manually!) reinstalling it&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 Not impressed..<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully Pidora will overcome their problems, and eventually provide support for F19 and beyond..<\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon..\u00a0 July 18, 2013<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updated the Raspberry Pi to kernel 3.9.9, and everything seems to work OK..
