{"id":755,"date":"2013-06-27T22:31:48","date_gmt":"2013-06-27T21:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=755"},"modified":"2013-06-27T22:38:35","modified_gmt":"2013-06-27T21:38:35","slug":"kernel-3-10-rc7-nvidia-patched-ok-and-vmware-ok-with-vmblock-disabled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=755","title":{"rendered":"Kernel 3.10-rc7 &#8211; NVIDIA (patched) OK, and VMware OK, with vmblock Disabled.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Updated the test system to kernel <strong>3.10-rc7<\/strong>, and the patched NVIDIA drivers for <em>310.51<\/em> and<em> 319.23<\/em> compile OK, as before.<\/p>\n<p>VMware 9.02 &#8211; with the <em>vmnet<\/em> patch &#8211; compiles OK, except for <em>vmblock<\/em>..\u00a0\u00a0 I still can&#8217;t find a patch for vmblock and kernel 3.10-rcN, but VMware can run without vmblock, so just stop it from trying to compile:<\/p>\n<p>in <strong>\/etc\/vmware<\/strong>, edit the <strong>config<\/strong> file, and change<br \/>\n<strong>VMBLOCK_CONFED = &#8220;yes&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>\nto<br \/>\n<strong>VMBLOCK_CONFED = &#8220;no&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; then save the file, and recompile\/restart VMware:<\/p>\n<p>I found that the usual command line for compiling and (re)installing VMware kernel modules (<strong><em>vmware-modconfig &#8211;console &#8211;install-all<\/em><\/strong>) appears to ignore the options to &#8216;not&#8217; compile certain modules, as specified in \/etc\/vmware\/config..<br \/>\nSo&#8230; to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">selectively<\/span> install these, just use the command line instruction normally used by the <strong># vmware<\/strong> command itself:<br \/>\n(as root, from an X session console window)<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: terminal,monaco;\"># vmware-modconfig &#8211;icon=vmware-workstation &#8211;appname=VMware<\/span><br \/>\n<\/strong>This _does_ follow the module configuration options in \/etc\/vmware\/config, and compiles\/starts vmware successfully, without trying to start the client as well..
