and a Surprise.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just updated to <strong>3.7.9<\/strong>, but <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">forgot<\/span> to do the usual &#8216;softlink&#8217; for correct compilation of VMware..<br \/>\n<em><strong># ln -s \/usr\/src\/linux-3.7.9\/include\/generated\/uapi\/linux\/version.h \/usr\/src\/linux-3.7.9\/include\/linux\/version.h<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I ran the compilation for the the latest &#8216;stable&#8217; NVIDIA driver (310.32), but discovered that &#8211; with 3.7.9 &#8211; this failed, as well!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To save time, I had been creating the softlink after compiling the latest kernel, but before rebooting, so the the VMware driver would &#8216;automatically&#8217; recompile as part of the boot process.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This had &#8211; of course &#8211; been masking the problem with the NVIDIA compile, as the softlink was usually already in place by the time this was done &#8211; after the reboot&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>There hadn&#8217;t been a problem with the earlier 3.7.x kernels, and so I tried a test with 3.7.7, and the same problem occurred &#8211; and was fixed by the softlink..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I had already deleted earlier versions, so was not able to test with these..<\/p>\n<p>I then tried the same tests with 310.32 on 3.8-rc7, and there was no problem&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 As with earlier 3.7.x kernels, the &#8216;softlink&#8217; for version.h was only needed for VMware..<\/p>\n<p>After some more research, it appears that this has already been reported on the NVIDIA DevZone forum, and mentions that the problem started with 3.7.6..<br \/>\n<a title=\"https:\/\/devtalk.nvidia.com\/default\/topic\/529620\/latest-stable-driver-310-32-wont-compile-on-stable-kernel-3-7-6-3-7-7-3-7-8\/\" href=\"https:\/\/devtalk.nvidia.com\/default\/topic\/529620\/latest-stable-driver-310-32-wont-compile-on-stable-kernel-3-7-6-3-7-7-3-7-8\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/devtalk.nvidia.com\/default\/topic\/529620\/latest-stable-driver-310-32-wont-compile-on-stable-kernel-3-7-6-3-7-7-3-7-8\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>There is a link to a patch, there, but I haven&#8217;t tried this, as the softlink for VMware does the job, for me..<\/p>\n<p>So &#8211;
