{"id":564,"date":"2012-11-19T19:16:02","date_gmt":"2012-11-19T19:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=564"},"modified":"2012-11-19T19:16:02","modified_gmt":"2012-11-19T19:16:02","slug":"android-vm-with-vmware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=564","title":{"rendered":"Android VM &#8211; with VMware"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now that I have several Android devices &#8211; having just taken delivery of an &#8216;inexpensive&#8217; 7in tablet &#8211; I decided it would be interesting to run the OS in a VMware virtual machine..<\/p>\n<p>You can get a &#8216;VirtualBox&#8217; Android 4 image at <a title=\"http:\/\/androvm.org\/blog\/download\/\" href=\"http:\/\/androvm.org\/blog\/download\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/androvm.org\/blog\/download\/<\/a>\u00a0 and then convert it to a VMware VM, by opening the <em><strong>xxxx.ova<\/strong><\/em> file using VMware, and following the prompts to convert it.. \u00a0 You may find that the process &#8216;fails&#8217; the first time, with a vague error message, but if you run it a <em>second<\/em> time, it should be successful.. \u00a0 \u00a0 I used the &#8216;tablet\/phone&#8217; version (androVM_vbox86<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\"><strong>tp<\/strong><\/span>&#8230;), as I wanted a tablet-sized screen, but some apps (such as Firefox) won&#8217;t install on the &#8216;tablet-only&#8217; version, for some odd reason..<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_565\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/d1507750.u268.pipeten.co.uk\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/android-vnware.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-565\" class=\" wp-image-565\" title=\"Android VM with VMware\" alt=\"Android VM with VMware\" src=\"http:\/\/d1507750.u268.pipeten.co.uk\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/android-vnware.png\" height=\"439\" width=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/android-vnware.png 1308w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/android-vnware-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/android-vnware-1024x749.png 1024w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/android-vnware-624x457.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-565\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Android VM with VMware<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">A couple of (minor) gotchas..\u00a0\u00a0 The keyboard layout seems to be US-only, despite the description being &#8216;UK&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This means the<strong> @<\/strong> symbol will be where the<strong> &#8220;<\/strong> symbol is, on a UK keyboard..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is no obvious way to power off within Android (as you would usually use the power button on a phone or tablet) so just use the &#8216;power off&#8217; icon (red square) at the top left of the VMware window..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">I will be writing more about my new Android 7in tablet, after I have spent more time using it..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><em>Robert Gadsdon.\u00a0 November 19th 2012.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that I have several Android devices &#8211; having just taken delivery of an &#8216;inexpensive&#8217; 7in tablet &#8211; I decided it would be interesting to run the OS in a VMware virtual machine..
