{"id":466,"date":"2012-10-02T18:14:59","date_gmt":"2012-10-02T18:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=466"},"modified":"2012-10-02T18:14:59","modified_gmt":"2012-10-02T18:14:59","slug":"linux-and-android-not-talking-to-each-other","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=466","title":{"rendered":"Linux and Android &#8211; Not Talking to Each Other?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had been frustrated for years with the dire support for connecting mobile phones (cellphones..) on Linux.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bluetooth support to phones was patchy, to say the least, and has been completely re-written for KDE, but still has very limited functionality..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I can (just about) connect to my Samsung Android phone, but can only transfer files <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">to<\/span> the phone, and cannot see all the content..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is software, such as Wammu\/Gammu, and BitPim, but these tend to support older phones, and in many cases, models that are only available in certain geographies..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 If I want to transfer files properly, I have to resort to a good old USB cable, and see the phone as a disk drive..<\/p>\n<p>As Android is based on Linux, one might suppose that communication would be easy, but &#8211; ironically &#8211; the phone support &#8211; even under Windows &#8211; tends to be <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">less<\/span> functional, for some reason..\u00a0\u00a0 I even tried some commercial software for Windows for this purpose, and most of the sync functions simply didn&#8217;t work reliably, or at all!
