{"id":348,"date":"2012-08-18T10:55:37","date_gmt":"2012-08-18T10:55:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=348"},"modified":"2012-08-18T10:55:37","modified_gmt":"2012-08-18T10:55:37","slug":"apc-and-now-fedora-linux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=348","title":{"rendered":"APC &#8211; And now &#8211; Fedora Linux.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After all the pioneering work done to get a compiled working version of the APC kernel by Mike Thompson from the Raspbian project, as described in a previous post, I now have Fedora Linux running on the APC.<\/p>\n<p>I had planned to be able to get Fedora 17 working, but the APC kernel (vintage 2010!) is just too &#8216;old&#8217;.. \u00a0 Some of the essential functionality required to run Fedora 17 (such as <strong>devtmpfs<\/strong>) is present in kernel 2.6.32.9, but unrefined, and marked as [<em>EXPERIMENTAL<\/em>], and devtmpfs produced a complete kernel crash\/dump every time I booted the system..\u00a0\u00a0 I tried Fedora 14, which almost worked, but <strong>udev<\/strong> produced a massive tombstone every time..<\/p>\n<p>I then tried <strong>Fedora 13<\/strong>, and that seems to boot and run just fine, although some major functionality is currently missing, due to the corresponding APC driver source code being unavailable.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_349\" style=\"width: 599px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/d1507750.u268.pipeten.co.uk\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/apc_webmin.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-349\" class=\"size-full wp-image-349\" title=\"webmin_apc\" src=\"http:\/\/d1507750.u268.pipeten.co.uk\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/apc_webmin.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"589\" height=\"383\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/apc_webmin.png 589w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/apc_webmin-300x195.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 589px) 100vw, 589px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-349\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Webmin on the APC, with Fedora \/ ARM 13<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Fortunately, this &#8216;old&#8217; version of Fedora \/ ARM is still available..\u00a0\u00a0 Details at:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/paulfedora.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/30\/fedora-13-arm-rc1-breathing-new-life-into-eol\/\" href=\"http:\/\/paulfedora.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/30\/fedora-13-arm-rc1-breathing-new-life-into-eol\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/paulfedora.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/30\/fedora-13-arm-rc1-breathing-new-life-into-eol\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the YUM repository is still available&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This is actually the Fedora version I first installed on the Dreamplug, over a year ago..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 At that time, the Fedora ARM project was considerably behind the version of the &#8216;mainline&#8217; distribution, but in this case, that has turned out to be a fortunate coincidence, as Fedora 13 matches the <em>ancient<\/em> kernel currently available for the APC!<\/p>\n<p>Today, the ARM version of Fedora is tracking the &#8216;X86..&#8217; version, and I am running Fedora 17 on all my other ARM systems, which &#8211; of course &#8211; have relatively recent kernel versions available (3.2.24 for the Raspberry Pi, and 3.4.9 for the Dreamplug)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After all the pioneering work done to get a compiled working version of the APC kernel by Mike Thompson from the Raspbian project, as described in a previous post, I now have Fedora Linux running on the APC.
