{"id":2325,"date":"2018-06-18T12:41:30","date_gmt":"2018-06-18T19:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=2325"},"modified":"2018-06-18T12:41:30","modified_gmt":"2018-06-18T19:41:30","slug":"vmware-possible-clues-to-failure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=2325","title":{"rendered":"VMware &#8211; Possible Clues to Failure?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>OPINION\/SPECULATION:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After more tests, I am still encountering the odd behaviour of VMware (<strong>14.1.2<\/strong> with <em>vmmon<\/em> patch) and Kernel <strong>4.18-rc1<\/strong>, but did notice one possible clue..<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the <span style=\"font-family: courier new, courier;\"><strong><code><span style=\"font-family: courier new, courier;\"># systemctl status vmware.service<\/span><\/code><\/strong><\/span> output, it includes the following:<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<pre><strong>Jun 18 01:02:03 rgtest vmware[5663]: Blocking file system[FAILED]<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>I think this should not be there, as VMBlock has been obsolete for a long time now, and the functionality has been taken over by kernel code, including FUSE (<strong>F<\/strong>ile system in <strong>U<\/strong>ser <strong>S<\/strong>pace)..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And&#8230; it turns out that there have been some changes to FUSE in 4.18-rc1:\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/lkml.iu.edu\/hypermail\/linux\/kernel\/1806.0\/01405.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/lkml.iu.edu\/hypermail\/linux\/kernel\/1806.0\/01405.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So.. it may be that changes to FUSE have caused VMware &#8211; including userland functions &#8211; to be &#8216;confused&#8217;?<\/p>\n<p>More investigation needed, of course..<\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon.\u00a0\u00a0 June 18, 2018.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OPINION\/SPECULATION: After more tests, I am still encountering the odd behaviour of VMware (14.1.2 with vmmon patch) and Kernel 4.18-rc1, but did notice one possible clue..
