{"id":207,"date":"2012-05-18T13:24:20","date_gmt":"2012-05-18T13:24:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=207"},"modified":"2012-05-18T13:24:20","modified_gmt":"2012-05-18T13:24:20","slug":"fedora-upgrade-16-to-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=207","title":{"rendered":"Fedora Upgrade &#8211; 16 to 17.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After all the Pi excitement, back to (relative) normality..<\/p>\n<p>I upgraded my main (x86_64) systems to Fedora 17, using YUM, as usual..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have found that using the DVD is messy, and sometimes leaves the system in a &#8216;hybrid&#8217; state, and then the DVD versions of many packages need to be updated, in any case!<\/p>\n<p>Compared to previous upgrades, this one was less trouble than before..\u00a0\u00a0 I only had to manually erase an old set of <strong><em>compiz<\/em><\/strong> RPMs to avoid serious conflicts&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Using <em><strong>dracut<\/strong><\/em> to automagically reassign the \/usr directory structure (a change with F17) worked fine, as well..<\/p>\n<p>Not too happy with the rather odd changes to grub2 with version 2.0&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 The boot menu seems to be actually <strong>less<\/strong> user-friendly now &#8211; if that is at all possible&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OK for (re)booting systems on the desktop, but not so hot for remote &#8216;headless&#8217; systems, if you (like me) always compile your own kernel, with more than three versions available to choose from at boot time..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After all the Pi excitement, back to (relative) normality..
