{"id":1992,"date":"2017-05-29T00:47:38","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T07:47:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1992"},"modified":"2017-05-29T00:47:38","modified_gmt":"2017-05-29T07:47:38","slug":"vmware-simple-fix-for-12-5-6-runtime-with-fedora-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1992","title":{"rendered":"VMware &#8211; Simple Fix for 12.5.6 Runtime with Fedora 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After further research, I have found a simple solution for the VMware 12.5.6 runtime, with Fedora 26, thanks to comments by <em><strong>ronengi<\/strong><\/em> and others on the Archlinux site ( <a href=\"https:\/\/aur.archlinux.org\/packages\/vmware-patch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/aur.archlinux.org\/packages\/vmware-patch\/<\/a> ).\u00a0\u00a0 This made sense, as the <span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><strong>vmware-installer<\/strong><\/span> graphical interface still ran OK, despite the runtime <strong>vmware<\/strong> not doing so..<\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong># cp -r \/usr\/lib\/vmware-installer\/2.1.0\/lib\/lib\/libexpat.so.0 \/usr\/lib\/vmware\/lib<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong># cd \/usr\/lib\/vmware\/lib\/libz.so.1<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong># mv -i libz.so.1 libz.so.1.old<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong># ln -s \/usr\/lib64\/libz.so.1 .<\/strong><\/span><\/pre>\n<p>Then just run the executable in the normal way\u00a0 &#8211; <strong><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"># vmware<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The kernel modules <strong>vmmon<\/strong> and <strong>vmnet<\/strong> still need to be manually compiled with gcc 7 and copied, as follows:<\/p>\n<p>In the <strong>\/usr\/lib\/vmware\/modules\/source<\/strong> directory, unTAR <strong>vmmon.tar<\/strong> and <strong>vmnet.tar<\/strong>, and then enter the resulting <strong>vmmon-only<\/strong> and <strong>vmnet-only<\/strong> directories and just type <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong># make<\/strong><\/span> in each.
