{"id":1802,"date":"2016-09-01T01:31:14","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T00:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1802"},"modified":"2016-09-01T01:31:14","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T00:31:14","slug":"arm64-odroid-c2-boots-with-patched-4-8-rc4-ethernet-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1802","title":{"rendered":"ARM64 &#8211; Odroid C2 &#8211; Boots with Patched 4.8-rc4 &#8211; Ethernet Issues.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Decided to try the Odroid C2 with the latest Kernel, and recently-released patches for MMC support..<\/p>\n<p>Used the (patched) version of 4.8-rc4 from here:\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ioft\/linux\/tree\/c2\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/github.com\/ioft\/linux\/tree\/c2<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks to <em><strong>umiddelb<\/strong><\/em> for producing this, which incorporates the (e)MMC support patches, and also includes patches providing the latest version of the <strong>dwmac_meson8b<\/strong> Ethernet driver, and associated mods to the device tree files, etc..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More details in the Odroid Forum discussions: <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.odroid.com\/viewtopic.php?f=135&amp;t=22717#p157817\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/forum.odroid.com\/viewtopic.php?f=135&amp;t=22717#p157817<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The C2 booted OK, once I had modified the boot parameters and <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>\/etc\/fstab<\/strong><\/span> to take account of the fact that the eMMC module (which I use) is <strong>\/dev\/mmcblk1<\/strong>, and not (as previously) \/dev\/mmcblk0..\u00a0\u00a0 An SDCard would now be \/dev\/mmcblk0..<\/p>\n<pre><strong><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">............<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">Fedora 24 (Workstation Edition)<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">Kernel 4.8.0-rc4-c2 on an aarch64 (ttyAML0)<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\">............\r\n[root@rgc2 ~]# uname -a<\/span><\/strong>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>Linux rgc2 4.8.0-rc4-c2 #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 31 02:20:44 EDT 2016 aarch64 aarch64<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>.........<\/strong><\/span><\/pre>\n<p>I soon encountered a problem with the Ethernet connection, and although <em>eth0<\/em> was present, and there were no errors logged, network traffic stopped after a short time, and could only be re-started by removing and reinstalling the <strong>dwmac_meson8b<\/strong> driver module &#8211; and then traffic stopped again after a short time&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>The Ethernet driver patches for the C2 are still very much a work-in-progress, and I would hope that this is fixed in a later release..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 More details here:\u00a0\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mail-archive.com\/netdev@vger.kernel.org\/msg123923.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.mail-archive.com\/netdev@vger.kernel.org\/msg123923.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon.\u00a0\u00a0 August 31, 2016.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Decided to try the Odroid C2 with the latest Kernel, and recently-released patches for MMC support..
