option..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For some reason, the install only worked if I <em>unmounted<\/em> the main eMMC partition (<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>\/dev\/mmcblk0p2<\/strong><\/span>) first..<\/p>\n<p>When it came to partitioning, the on-board eMMC (32GB) already had a 128MB partition as &#8216;Microsoft hidden&#8217; and the other 29GB partition as NTFS, so I just changed the 128MB partition to &#8216;EFI System&#8217; and mounted it as <span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>\/boot\/efi<\/strong><\/span>, and made the 29GB partition the standard EXT4-formatted rootfs..<\/p>\n<p>It even has a real bios interface, from another blast-from-the-past &#8211; <em>American Megatrends<\/em>..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In case you were wondering &#8211; I left the OS IMAGE ID parameter at &#8216;Windows 8.1&#8217;, as it was working fine, and I didn&#8217;t want to mess with anything that worked OK!\u00a0\u00a0 Interesting that it had &#8211; apparently &#8211; detected the Boot Option #1 as &#8216;Fedora&#8217;?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1794\" style=\"width: 870px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/up_board_bios.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1794\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1794\" src=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/up_board_bios.jpg\" alt=\"UP Board BIOS\" width=\"860\" height=\"673\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/up_board_bios.jpg 860w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/up_board_bios-300x235.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/up_board_bios-768x601.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/up_board_bios-383x300.jpg 383w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">UP Board BIOS<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The install completed OK, and even the standard Fedora 24 kernel sort-of worked, although the display was a bit quirky, and attempts to switch out of the HDMI monitor connection caused the system to die..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I decided to try an upgrade to a compiled Kernel 4.8-rc2, and this was much better, with stable display, and ability to operate &#8216;headless&#8217; if needed..<\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>....<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>Fedora 24 (Workstation Edition)<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>Kernel 4.8.0-rc2 on an x86_64 (tty1)<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>.....<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>$ uname -a<\/strong><\/span>\r\n<span style=\"font-family: courier new,courier;\"><strong>Linux rgup 4.8.0-rc2 #1 SMP Mon Aug 15 15:16:23 PDT 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU\/Linux<\/strong><\/span><\/pre>\n<p>My only real mistake was not ordering the rather proprietary micro-ten-pin UART+USB combo connector at the same time as the rest of the system..\u00a0\u00a0 I thought I could modify an existing USB\/UART connector, but the on-board connection is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">really<\/span> tiny, and the ten-pin connector itself seems very hard to find&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 I ended up ordering the combo connector separately, but shipping costs to the USA are rather steep for such an inexpensive item!<\/p>\n<p>The device seems &#8211;
