{"id":152,"date":"2012-04-17T19:10:53","date_gmt":"2012-04-17T19:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=152"},"modified":"2012-04-17T19:10:53","modified_gmt":"2012-04-17T19:10:53","slug":"pi-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=152","title":{"rendered":"Pi Update.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Found the latest kernel image (still 3.1.9-based..) and associated pre-compiled modules at the git repository &#8211; <a title=\"https:\/\/github.com\/raspberrypi\/firmware\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/raspberrypi\/firmware\">https:\/\/github.com\/raspberrypi\/firmware<\/a> &#8211; and the &#8216;new&#8217; version of <strong>kernel.img<\/strong> does away with the annoying console debug messages..<\/p>\n<p>Device still seems very slow, but maybe I&#8217;m too used to quad-core systems with masses of memory!<\/p>\n<p>I even tried the Debian system, as this is the recommended one, and Fedora is still described as &#8216;a little buggy&#8217;..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Apart from the fact that I find Debian immensely frustrating, the performance was not really any better, and I got annoyed at having to use primitive utilities (dpkg etc..)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I did notice that the Debian disk image included a swap partition, so I have added swap to the Fedora system&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am aware that swap files on SD Cards is somewhat controversial..<\/p>\n<p>The disk layout in fstab seems a bit unusual, but it seems to work&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0 The network interface starts out as USB0 and then becomes ETH0&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have installed <strong>webmin<\/strong> and de-installed NetworkManager, to make remote configuration more straightforward..<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Found the latest kernel image (still 3.1.9-based..) and associated pre-compiled modules at the git repository &#8211; https:\/\/github.com\/raspberrypi\/firmware &#8211; and the &#8216;new&#8217; version of kernel.img does away with the annoying console debug messages..
