DreamPlug Power Fault &#8211; and &#8216;Fix&#8217;.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I finally got my old DreamPlug working again, but found that the power would fail intermittently..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After checking for software faults, I tracked the problem down to the power supply cable &#8216;clip-on&#8217; connector..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/dreamplug_power_cable_slider.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1346 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/dreamplug_power_cable_slider.jpg\" alt=\"DreamPlug Connector\" width=\"294\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/dreamplug_power_cable_slider.jpg 349w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/dreamplug_power_cable_slider-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 294px) 100vw, 294px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The problem was caused by the internal connection between the two external pins and the internal slide-on metal tabs being loose, and causing frequent disconnects..<\/p>\n<p>My solution was to completely cut away the pins and metal tabs in the clip-on connector, leaving just the plastic shell, and solder the two wires of the power cable directly on to the spring-loaded metal tabs on the slide-on power supply itself, and then glue the shell of the clip-on connector back over the soldered joints using plastic epoxy glue, to seal it and hold the power cable securely &#8211; mains voltage is dangerous, and don&#8217;t attempt this unless you know what you are doing!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The result is that the DreamPlug is now completely stable, and ready for further &#8216;hacks&#8217;
