{"id":1129,"date":"2014-05-30T13:45:34","date_gmt":"2014-05-30T12:45:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1129"},"modified":"2014-05-30T13:52:02","modified_gmt":"2014-05-30T12:52:02","slug":"arm-new-quad-core-cubox-i4-pro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1129","title":{"rendered":"ARM &#8211; New Quad-Core Cubox-i4-PRO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just took delivery of one of a <strong>CuBox-i4-PRO<\/strong>, with quad-core i-MX6 1Mhz CPUs and 2GB memory built in..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cubox-may2014.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1130\" src=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cubox-may2014.jpg\" alt=\"CuBox-i4-PRO, with Odroid in the background..\" width=\"619\" height=\"414\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cubox-may2014.jpg 650w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cubox-may2014-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/wp_rglinuxtech\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cubox-may2014-448x300.jpg 448w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>CuBox-i4-PRO (with Odroid in the background..)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The device comes with Android on a 4GB SD card, and I discarded this and &#8211; for testing purposes &#8211; used an old 16GB SD card and installed Fedora 20 on it.<\/p>\n<p>Some instructions for this are available here (scroll down to the README.MD): \u00a0 <a title=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jmontleon\/fedora-20-cubox-i4pro\/tree\/3.14.4\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jmontleon\/fedora-20-cubox-i4pro\/tree\/3.14.4\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/github.com\/jmontleon\/fedora-20-cubox-i4pro\/tree\/3.14.4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I read the instructions, and was puzzled by some of the details, including the sequence of creating the SD card partitions and then &#8211; apparently &#8211; deleting one of them!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 So &#8211; be warned..!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Needless to say, I ignored this part!<\/p>\n<p>The next &#8216;confusion&#8217; was over the kernel compile instructions, which appear to recommend using the <em>hummingboard<\/em> DTB..<\/p>\n<p>I did try this, and the resulting kernel crashed during the boot process&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Further research found that the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">correct<\/span> DTB for the i4 is <strong>imx6q-cubox-i.dtb<\/strong>, and this worked fine for me:<\/p>\n<pre>$<strong> uname -a<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Linux rgcubox 3.14.4+ #1 SMP Mon May 26 16:47:51 EDT 2014 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU\/Linux<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>One of the useful features of the device is that it includes an eSATA port, to enable a (faster) SATA disk to be used..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 This is not an eSATA-p port, so you will need to get an adapter that includes a USB connection, for power, which just plugs in to one of the (two) USB2 ports.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The device also has a Gigabit Ethernet port, but this runs at a slower overall speed, due to restrictions on the internal bus..<\/p>\n<p>A nice feature is that it has a built in serial console port, which just needs a micro-usb cable connection.<\/p>\n<p>Next, I will be moving the filesystem to an eSATA-attached SSD.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The \/boot directory is EXT3, and the root filesystem EXT4.<\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon.\u00a0\u00a0 May 30, 2014.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just took delivery of one of a CuBox-i4-PRO, with quad-core i-MX6 1Mhz CPUs and 2GB memory built in..
