{"id":1126,"date":"2014-05-24T13:09:48","date_gmt":"2014-05-24T12:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1126"},"modified":"2014-05-24T13:09:48","modified_gmt":"2014-05-24T12:09:48","slug":"pi-pidora-catch-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1126","title":{"rendered":"Pi &#8211; Pidora Catch-22.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Encountered a classic &#8216;Catch 22&#8217; problem with a recent <strong>Pidora 20<\/strong> update..<\/p>\n<p>The version of RPM &#8211; <em><strong>rpm-4.11.2-3.fc20.v6.armv6hl<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; was broken, as it had the &#8216;build architecture&#8217; set to <strong><em>arm5tel<\/em><\/strong>, instead of <strong><em>armv6hl<\/em><\/strong>..<\/p>\n<p>This meant that all subsequent yum updates failed, with &#8221;<strong>package xxxxxxxxx.armv6hl is intended for a different architecture<\/strong>&#8221; errors.<\/p>\n<p>And&#8230; updating RPM with yum also failed, or course, with the same error..<\/p>\n<p>With the &#8216;bad&#8217; version of RPM:<\/p>\n<pre># <strong>rpm --showrc | head<\/strong>\r\nARCHITECTURE AND OS:\r\nbuild arch : armv5tel\r\ncompatible build archs: armv6l armv5tejl armv5tel armv4tl armv4l armv3l noarch\r\nbuild os : Linux\r\ncompatible build os's : Linux\r\ninstall arch : armv6l\r\ninstall os : Linux\r\ncompatible archs : armv6l armv5tejl armv5tel armv4tl armv4l armv3l noarch\r\ncompatible os's : Linux<\/pre>\n<p>The &#8211; rather messy &#8211; solution was to manually download all the associated Pidora rpms for the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">later<\/span> version of RPM, and then use the<br \/>\n<strong># rpm -Uvh rpm*rpm &#8211; -ignorearch<\/strong> command to &#8216;locally&#8217; update RPM to a later, correct version..<\/p>\n<p>The Pidora RPM update rpms can be found here:\u00a0\u00a0 <a title=\"http:\/\/pidora.ca\/pidora\/updates\/20\/armv6hl\/r\/\" href=\"http:\/\/pidora.ca\/pidora\/updates\/20\/armv6hl\/r\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/pidora.ca\/pidora\/updates\/20\/armv6hl\/r\/<\/a> (scroll down&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Result:<\/p>\n<pre># <strong>rpm --showrc | head<\/strong> \r\nARCHITECTURE AND OS:\r\nbuild arch : armv6hl\r\ncompatible build archs: armv6hl noarch\r\nbuild os : Linux\r\ncompatible build os's : Linux\r\ninstall arch : armv6hl\r\ninstall os : Linux\r\ncompatible archs : armv6hl noarch\r\ncompatible os's : Linux<\/pre>\n<p>&#8211; and all subsequent <strong>yum update<\/strong>s worked OK, again..!<\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 May 24, 2014<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Encountered a classic &#8216;Catch 22&#8217; problem with a recent Pidora 20 update..
