{"id":1090,"date":"2014-03-31T14:32:25","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T13:32:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1090"},"modified":"2014-03-31T14:32:25","modified_gmt":"2014-03-31T13:32:25","slug":"kernel-3-14-is-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=1090","title":{"rendered":"Kernel 3.14 is Here.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just installed Kernel <strong>3.14<\/strong> on my main system, and (patched) VMware 10.0.1 and (patched) NVIDIA 334.21 install and run OK.<\/p>\n<p>Details of changes from -rc8 are here:\u00a0 <a title=\"http:\/\/lkml.iu.edu\/\/hypermail\/linux\/kernel\/1403.3\/03023.html\" href=\"http:\/\/lkml.iu.edu\/\/hypermail\/linux\/kernel\/1403.3\/03023.html\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/lkml.iu.edu\/\/hypermail\/linux\/kernel\/1403.3\/03023.html<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is worth repeating the changes for 3.14 relating to VMware modules, from my original article on -rc1:<\/p>\n<p>VMware compile will fail with the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">VMware<\/span> versions of vmci and vsock, but this can be fixed by selecting the <em>kernel.org<\/em> versions of these modules, from the standard 3.14 source tree.\u00a0\u00a0 The <strong>vmci<\/strong> module can be found under \u2018<em><strong>Misc devices<\/strong><\/em>\u2018, and the resulting module will be called <strong>vmw_vmci.ko<\/strong>, to distinguish it from the VMware version (vmci.ko)..\u00a0\u00a0 You will also need to select\/install the <em>kernel.org<\/em> version of <strong>vsock, <\/strong>which can be found under \u2018<strong><em>Networking options \/ Virtual Socket protocol<\/em><\/strong>\u2018\u00a0 (The \u2018VMware VMCI transport for Virtual Sockets\u2019 is only for Linux\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">guests<\/span>).\u00a0\u00a0 Confusingly, the resulting module is called <strong>vsock.ko<\/strong> \u2013 the same as the VMware one..\u00a0\u00a0 You have to select <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">both<\/span> these kernel.org versions of the modules, as the VMware version of vsock will fail to compile with the kernel.org version of vmci..<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned previously, the latest NVIDIA driver &#8211; 334.21 &#8211; will need the patch for <em><strong>nv-linux.h<\/strong><\/em> applied, to compile with Kernel 3.14..<\/p>\n<p><em>Robert Gadsdon.\u00a0\u00a0 March 31, 2014.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just installed Kernel 3.14 on my main system, and (patched) VMware 10.0.1 and (patched) NVIDIA 334.21 install and run OK.
