{"id":103,"date":"2012-03-23T12:08:38","date_gmt":"2012-03-23T12:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=103"},"modified":"2012-03-23T12:08:38","modified_gmt":"2012-03-23T12:08:38","slug":"swap-on-sd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rglinuxtech.com\/?p=103","title":{"rendered":"SWAP on SD?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been having continuing problems with <strong>yum<\/strong> &#8216;hanging&#8217; on my Dreamplug &#8211; through several different versions of Fedora, and numerous kernel updates (currently FC17 and Kernel 3.3..)<\/p>\n<p>The Fedora rootfs image did not include any swap, so &#8211; after some digging around &#8211; I decided to add a .\/SWAP file, and activate it&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The results (so far) seem to be positive, and <strong>yum<\/strong> appears to run faster, and doesn&#8217;t &#8216;hang&#8217;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The whole &#8216;Swap on SD Cards&#8217; saga seems to be somewhat controversial &#8211; with some claims that it will &#8216;wear out the card&#8217;&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The whole idea of using an off-the-shelf SD Card as a &#8216;disk drive&#8217; is a compromise, in any case, and it has been mentioned that a good-quality card will last for a good time, compared to other components in the system..<\/p>\n<p>So &#8212; my .\/SWAP (800MB) will stay, for the time being&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have been having continuing problems with yum &#8216;hanging&#8217; on my Dreamplug &#8211; through several different versions of Fedora, and numerous kernel updates (currently FC17 and Kernel 3.3..)
